Here at VNKworld Organization, we are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for all disable persons by bringing disability inclusion to life in all difference aspect in our society. Our decision of starting this amazing movement in inspired by our own experiences as we are also disabled people living among able people and putting together our past experience from ground up, to schooling and work environment we have identify a huge gap between able peers and disabled peers. We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact for everyone. VNKWORL which stands for “VELILE, NOKUBONGA AND KHANYISANI’ S WORLD we will be raising awareness around disability. Building inclusive culture in different communities, in schools, in the workplace, in private sector and through out media.
address the underlying causes of discrimination based on disability – namely the prevailing attitudes towards persons with disabilities in many societies. Even in countries where disability-related legislation exists (such as non-discrimination legislation),
the efficacy of such legislation is often hindered by public assumptions and
stereotypes of persons with disabilities.
In 2015, an evaluation was carried out on the implementation of the Council
of Europe Action Plan to promote the rights and full participation of people
with disabilities in society (2006-2015).4 The evaluation report highlights
specific challenges in the implementation of Action line 15 on awareness
raising:
-Lack of disability inclusion in our society at large
-Lack of awareness of positive and realistic images of persons with
disabilities in all sectors and strata of society.
- Lack of targeted, long-term, and systemic awareness-raising inclusion
campaigns and strategies, especially for children at the earliest possible
age.
-Failure to make use of innovative technologies and approaches in
awareness-raising campaigns and in disseminating good practices.5
-Insufficient use of the potential for personal participation of persons
with disabilities in promoting a realistic and positive perception of the
persons concerned based on real-life experiences.
Another important issue to keep in mind when developing awareness-raising
strategies and actions is the one of multiple discrimination. Persons with disabilities
are not a homogenous group and some persons may face additional and specific barriers due to a combination between disability and other features such as their sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, age, ethnicity, complex needs, intersecting impairments, type of disabilities, place of living, etc.
